Why Should I come to an Oral Surgeon for My Dental Implants?
Dental implant surgery is, of course, surgery, and is best performed by a trained surgeon. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon has the highest specialized education and training in the complexities of the bone, nerves, and other vital anatomy involved, to ensure you get the best possible results. A 2014 study suggests greater implant success rates when performed by a dental specialist (oral surgeon).
Eat Your Favorite Foods Again With Dental Implants
Don’t suffer from missing teeth any longer! Dental implants are natural-looking replacement teeth that can preserve your facial structure and improve your smile.
What are dental implants?
A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to implant-supported replacement teeth, you’ll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw. The difference is that the implant is made of titanium – the same time-tested material used by surgeons for artificial joints. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, the surgeon first replaces the root with a small dental implant.
Surgical Advances in Dental Implants
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. McDonnell, Dr. Kimberly and Dr. Klein are able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.
Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Drs. McDonnell, Kimberly or Klein performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.
“Don’t be afraid to Smile.”
For years I’d felt like a part of my body was missing — because my teeth were. My dentist told me that dental implants would make me feel and look a lot better. OK, I said. Now, I’m thrilled. I can smile, eat anything, and enjoy a good laugh with my friends.

This is my second dental implant. After the first one, I thought I would never get one again. I went to a different oral surgeon for the first one. The pain after the Novocain started to wear off was excruciating. Dr. Kimberly pulled a tooth, inserted the implant and when the Novocain wore off I had absolutely no pain. I am extremely happy!!!!!

Dr. Klein removed my son's wisdom teeth in 2014. In 2017 I needed a molar extraction and implant and was referred to another oral surgeon where I had a terrible experience. Dr. Klein took me on as a patient after the botched procedure but was fair in wanting to give his peer the benefit of doubt; however, after hearing my story, he agreed to continue my treatment to resolution. He is a very kind and patient man with an easy going manner and my blood pressure dropped when he walked into the room. His office staff - regardless their position or training - are extremely kind and the overall atmosphere is quiet and calming. I would never hesitate to refer him.
